Well, I have gone over the bend and have fallen in love with the Dr Who series, especially the latest versions, although I really don't mind the quaint early black and white versions. Maybe because I am disabled and I want to regenerate.  Anyway, even the Christmas special about man eating snowmen (they had no arms, how do they eat with only teeth; then they melt...) but after about 10 minutes I no longer cared and went right along with the concept of snowmen.  Anyway, this is a long time British series that is catching on in the United States.

This show is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and they are still making new episodes every year.  The show also rroutinely replaces their leading actors every few years as well as behind the scenes staff, so it really could go on forever.  Look for it on BBC America.

I've always been a big fan of The Rockford Files (1974-80), starring the incomparable James Garner as private investigator James Scott Rockford. It's well acted, well written and well directed, taking satirical aim at such topics as gossip magazines, rock stars and Hollywood celebrities.

The special two-hour episode "Never Send a Boy King to Do a Man's Job" (Season 5, March 3, 1979) ranks as one of Rockford's finest. Rockford and fellow P.I. Richie Brockelman (Dennis Dugan) assemble a team of con artists and run a scam on greedy sports promoter Harold Jack Coombs (Robert Webber).

And, yes, The Rockford Files is still running, most notably on MeTV and Hulu. You can also check out the various The Rockford Files DVD collections.

Hi Jovy,

One of my personal favorites is a British comedy called Doc Martin.  The series revolves around the professional and private life of Dr. Martin Ellingham, a surgeon from London who suddenly cannot stand the sight of blood and must seek alternative employment as a small town primary care physician in the town where he spent part of his childhood.  The good doctor is brilliant, but is extremely lacking in basic social skills.  He is brutally honest and tactless, which doesn't go over well in the small community where he now finds himself.  However, even this social misfit somehow finds a way to fit in and even start up an unlikely romance.  Needless to say, every day is a fairly rocky one for him on the social front, and watching all of his most basic interactions ends up being quite hilarious (that is, if you like British humor--which we do!).  I didn't think I would like it just listening to the basic premise, but it has ended up being one of my favorite shows of all time!  If you have Amazon prime, it is free!

I absolutely loved the Lost series. I liked it because it had a lot of mysteries that kept viewers hooked right from the start. It spanned 7 seasons with each season resolving some mysteries from the past and adding a lot of interesting new ones. Amazing story aside, Lost also had a lot of memorable characters which you would either love or hate. The cast fit their roles perfectly and no one seemed out of place. The complete Lost series could be purchased at Amazon.

There have been some great TV series over the years. My all-time favorite is probably The X-Files. You can buy each season separately or the entire collection.
